About
After the disastrous Tsunami of December 2004, Thai students in UM have responded through various forms of donations. Most of us were fortunate, our families, friends were not victims of this historical disaster. However, some of us were less fortunate... Some had relatives, friends living in the hard hit areas, some lost their way of living to the giant waves. The waves have left Southern Thailand with over 5000 deaths, approximately 510 million USD in damages to the economy, up to 2 years of reconstruction work, and a critical blow to the tourist industry--a main industry driving the economy of southern Thailand.
The group was initiated with the purpose to act rather than sit and watch, to give back to the community that raised us and to show the less fortunate that "We care".
Our primary goal is to help the recovery of remote areas in Thailand, especially areas that have recieved little attention and assistance. We are organizing a summer camp between 8-21 May 2005 in Phang Nga, Thailand, which will attempt to help the relief efforts in several ways. Through the summer camp, we hope our volunteers will gain invaluable experiences, feel a deeper tie with the (global) community, be reawaken to the value of life, and most of all provide the "Wave of Hope" that is much needed. Join us, because ...
TOGETHER, WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE
